Fusing epic storytelling with puppetry, dance, Peking opera, and Buddhist sutras, The Monkey King is an electrifying new production from composer Huang Ruo and Tony Award-winning writer David Henry Hwang. Follow the stone-born trickster as he takes on gods, demons, and his own ego in a quest for immortality and respect.
Directed by Diane Paulus with mesmerizing visuals by Basil Twist, this cross-cultural spectacle explodes with color, energy, and heart. Performed in English and Chinese with supertitles, and featuring a powerful score that blends East and West, this is opera like you’ve never seen before.
